Transportation
Program
Assistance with transportation to
cancer-related appointments is available for persons who, for
social or financial reasons, require such help. The client pays a
small amount toward the cost of the trip. There are volunteer
driver coordinators throughout the region who will arrange the
rides from the list of drivers in their area. Drivers, who have
successfully completed an application which includes a Criminal
Record Check, volunteer their time to take clients to appointments
and they receive reimbursement for mileage, parking and a meal, if
necessary, from SCCR.

Wig services
SCCR has several wigs of varying colors and
styles, which can be loaned out to people experiencing hair loss
as a result of cancer treatment. Included in this service is a
complimentary styling by Karen Keam and a wig care kit (shampoo,
spray and a drying form). The wigs are made of a good quality
synthetic, which makes them very easy to care for. The wigs are
returned to SCCR when no longer needed as they can be sanitized
and given out to another client to use.
A service fee of $25 will be applied to this service after Jan.
1st/06.
-
Hats and Turbans
Volunteer sewers and knitters in the area
make summer and winter hats and turbans in various types and
colors of material. These are given to persons who require head
coverings as a result of cancer treatment.
These hats are made by individuals or groups of women who get
together to make hats. Some of the communities that have held
sewing days are Morden and Thornhill, Crystal City, Cartwright and
Woodmore.
-
Surgical Bra and
Breast Prostheses Bank
There is a selection of these items
available at SCCR for women who have undergone mastectomies and
are not yet ready to purchase the items. A certified mastectomy
consultant is available by appointment to fit these or to consult
on the purchase of bras and/or prostheses. A $25 fee will also be
applied to this service after Jan. 1st/06.

who wishes to view the CD-ROM's or research a cancer-related
topic. There is a television and VCR for viewing the video
resources. CD-ROMS and videos can be signed out to be used at
