Client Letter
Thank you for your enquiries into the services at South Central
Cancer Resource. It is a privilege to be of service to you in any
way we can. SCCR is a non-profit charitable organization started by
volunteers in April, 2003 for the purpose of providing local support
to people living with cancer in the area served by Boundary Trails
Health Center (the R.M. of Roblin is now also included).
Almost all funding for SCCR comes from individuals and groups in the
communities included in this area in the forms of grants, canvases,
donations, memoriams and fundraising initiatives. SCCR has not
received financial assistance from government, or from organizations
such as CancerCare Manitoba or the Canadian Cancer Society, although
these organizations provide assistance to SCCR in areas of resources
and education.
Funding from the communities allows SCCR to provide some support to
local people while they are experiencing cancer. These services
include:
-
loan bank of wigs when there is hair loss due to
treatment. (Note: A service fee of $25 will be applied.)
-
provision of hats and turbans made by local
volunteers.
-
loan bank of bras and breast prostheses. (Note: A
service fee of $25 will be applied.)
-
resource material in print, video and CD-ROM form
about cancers and related topics.
-
web site at
www.sccr.mb.ca.
-
Kids Can Cope program which is a support program
for kids between 5and 18 years who have a loved one with cancer.
-
Just For Me team which is a hair stylist, a
certified mastectomy consultant and a cosmetician who will do
group workshops or individual consults.
-
Transportation Program to assist people in the
catchment area to get to cancer-related appointments. SCCR
has a volunteer driver coordinator and a list of drivers in
communities throughout the region who volunteer their time to
this program. The drivers have been screened by SCCR, have
completed a Criminal Record Check and have a valid driver's
license and vehicle registration. Rides are arranged for
clients as needed and the driver keeps a log of the trip, which
the client is to sign at the completion of the trip. SCCR
reimburses the driver for his/her gas, meals and parking.
SCCR bills the client for a portion of the cost of the trip,
according to the individual or family income, as determined by
the Transportation Program Policy. The client will receive
a receipt for income tax purposes. If there are family
members who can drive the client, some assistance may be
available as outlined in the policy. SCCR has a list of Winnipeg
accommodations in the case that a client must stay in Winnipeg
for a period of time. If a client wishes, a donation to
SCCR over and above the client contribution to the trip can be
made and a charitable donation receipt will be issued for that
amount.
This information is available on our web site
www.sccr.mb.ca. or you
can contact us directly for more information about any of these
services. Office hours are Mon.-Thurs. from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
and 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Sincerely,
Jo-Anne Robbins / Patti Rach
